For me XP was the best, and I used it from 2003-2016 (before that I used Win 98), I sometimes used Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1, they all sucked and non could replace XP for me. But In 2016 I took Windows 10 and love it. Things that worked in XP also works amazingly fine in 10, + tons of new features. Now Windows 10 is my fav and a worthy successor to Windows XP. The rest (vista, 7, 8, 8.1) are garbage imo I particularly despised 8, it tried to make my pc like a smart phone, I dont need it for that, my smart phone is good enough and I use a desktop for totally different purpose. I just love Windows 10 and will never replace it!
XP pro SP 3 is what you want. Nothing else works as well. You can get a barely used LENOVO work station, fresh XP copy, big HD and 8 gig memory for under $100 on ebay. Does everything but pump your septic system. Stick with what works.
It's proven that with every successive windows os the work load increments. This, in conjunction with the tablet aproach, makes windows a really shity plataform.
I pirated Win7 and one day I woked up with win10. That tells a lot. They want you to have win10 to collect data. You can unmark the tracking options and they mark themselves again.
A serviceable shit overall.
I'm running Windows 10 and find it very stable. The interface gets a little getting used to. If you want to change the Windows 10 interface to XP or Windows 7 download and install a program called Classic Shell. Its free and you can get it here:

7 is the best, till 10 gets the bugs fixed. 8 is the worst and vista was bearable but was continuously buggy
All these peasants that don't know the power of Linux don't deserve to be illuminated.
I already know about linux but i am a microsoft fan. I would make a post about linux IF I knew all the diffrent distros.
That's not very inviting. As a PC advocate i'm a little revoked by your attitude. How about trying to educate them instead of exclude them. Who knows, you might be able to enlighten some people.
Depends on what you want. Simply saying "the best one" doesn't tell anything. What are you looking for specifically? Simplicity? Capacities? User experience? Adaptability?
I preferred 7 because I wanted it simple and fast, without using much of its capacity, but that depends on the user and their preferences. But the "best" one to have on a PC right now, whatever that means, should be the latest, since they keep releasing updates for it and you benefit from the lastest innovations. For example, newer versions were defended against WannaCry due to security patches that Microsoft releases only for later versions, to force you to keep updating your system and use their products.
