I'd vote Linux purely for the fact that it's open source. It isn't owned by some evil corporation, it's in the public domain, it's owned by the world, we all have an equal right to it. Which also means no evil corporation is profitting off of it. Plus it's not a closed secretive system, restricted by user agreements and copyrights, it's free and open for anyone to hack into and improve upon, and you can't get sued for doing so. And the fact that it was made by a worldwide network of dedicated passionate volunteers in their spare time, who are complete strangers yet they united for a common goal to improve the world, and it competes with the commercial product of a billion dollar company, is incredible. It's always open source software all the way for me.

I believe mac is the best operating system but I like windows more. Windows is way cheaper and the format is better to me although it crashes more.

Best overall operating system I ever used. I NEVER had a crash or a hangup in restart. Individual programs may have failed due to program bugs. But, the operating system never did.
Of course... That was before msdos was introduced and IBM convinced the world that having an operating system that froze and crashed periodically was "OK."

Actually it's what's best for you, others may have different preferences. Whether if you're into a closed or open source operating system, solely depends on what operating system suits you and your needs, there is honestly no wrong in choosing the right one for you. For example I might choose to have Windows, it's like asking what mobile operating system people prefer some may say that they like Android or some could say that they like the iOS better.

Seriously, there is no "best" operating system.
If you're loaded and it's important to you to present the image of a wealthy sheep who falls for PR spin, likes the idea of belonging to a cult and follows the fashionable crowd, go for Apple.
If you want to go mainstream and you want the maximum possible range of software and hardware available to choose from, go Windows.
If your main priority is low cost, you have some degree of technical competence, you're not looking to do anything too niche with your machine, and you don't mind that there's a more limited range of software to choose from, consider at least trying Linux. I have Linux Mint installed on a mid-level laptop I bought new in 2006. It's very Windows-like, doesn't require you to faff around with the command line terminal, and its fine for things like online browsing and running the usual range of office productivity applications (Libre Office is also free, and it does most things that Word can).

Mac is genuinely better for creatives. I don't know if you've ever used Adobe CC programs, but they just work on a Mac. It's not just a snob thing.
That being said, as a creative myself, I prefer Windows because it's what I'm used to and I have more control.

I know nothing whatsoever about Adobe Creative Cloud, and I'm willing to believe what you say. One of the very few positive things about a closed ecosystem is that applications can be optimised to work on a specific and very limited range of hardware. Since Apple is deeply entrenched in the world of creatives, I assume that's exactly what Adobe has done. And I wouldn't be surprised if Apple hardware engineers optimise their hardware to run Adobe applications.
I also accept that back in the bad old days when I started messing around with computers (the eighties), many people who weren't technically-minded found PCs and Windows incredibly frustrating and confusing. It made sense for them to pay a premium for something that looked cool and worked straight out of the box. PCs and Windows have made enormous advances in user-friendliness since then, but Apple maintains its hold on creatives, partly because of inertia, and partly because one thing Apple has always been good at using its vast resources to wage PR campaigns that maintain the brand's mystique.
My main issue with Apple isn't their products, but the ethos of the company. Something I read recently somehow exemplifies this: Apparently, if a producer of a TV show or movie wants to show a character using an Apple-branded product, the firm will only licence use of their logo if the character shown using the product is a wholesome, hero-type. Villains or ambiguous characters are not allowed to be seen using products with the apple on the back.

I'm in total agreement on disliking Apple's marketing strategy and the kind of premium consumer that they've created. And before I actually used an Apple product I thought the lot of them can go jump off a bridge.
But when I was forced to use a Mac at work I realised why people treat it like a religion. No hanging programs, everything optimised for flow and once I got used to the different UI and key setup it was actually pretty good.
Apple managed to convince me based purely on their product, not PR spin. So even though I will not use their products from a price standpoint, I have some respect for their product ideology and consumer following.
