Which profession is most important to society?

A vexed question. All professions are equally important. Society is an interconnected network of interdependent communities, each serving their particular function.

In order: Farmers, healthcare workers, police.

Farmers produce large quantities of food for the modern society. Healthcare workers take care of our children, sick, and elderly.

The cops are the least important by a significant margin. Half of them don't even do their jobs correctly.

In the west farmer are. You cant have a large and dense population without farmers. If all the farms shut down all the wild game would be extinct in probably less than a month and then everyone starves to death and starts eating eachother.

If its a small society with a lot of land people could be hunter gatherers and healthcare workers would be the most important there.

Prostitution.

It's all important. We rely on each other. That's how we've made it so far as a species and people.

Dispite a crappy fistful that suck at their jobs you need to have at least some people to hold society together and enforce its rules.

Farmers make food for themselves and others, great. But they also dont make their farming equipment, their clothes, and pretty much everything else that cant be sourced from their farms. Farmers grow and important resource, but they arent the lynchpin of society, rather the base stone for a full society.

Just like healthcare, which is nice for a society to have. Not required if you dont care about how old your society gets.

Cops though, as much flak as they deserve we also need. Not for personal protection but just a group to turn to get order resolved.

They are all equally important. I'm just realistic about tendencies. Yes it would be swell to be a bunch of hippies in the woods, but at a certain population size you need people to keep order
