My mother was a Frank groupie and saw him at Radio City Music Hall in 1946. He was bigger than all the others combined.

Frank Sinatra. Although I like his music the least, he's the one to most likely be known by both older and younger generations.
Edit: Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson are probably the most famous musicians of all time. With Queen and Snoop Dog not being that much further behind but have distinct generational divisions.

The Beatles are definitely in the top 5 of all time (many might argue number 1) for all-time popularity in popular music. Beatles, Elvis, Sinatra, Jackson… maybe Madonna for number 5?
Great as Queen is, I don’t necessarily see why they would be significantly above AC/DC or Led Zeppelin or Van Halen or a number of the other classic hard rock bands in terms of popularity.
As for Snoop Dog, he’s just one of the most famous rappers but it’s not like he has that much appeal outside of the rap fan base.

Ah. I forgot about The Beatles. Yeah, they're definitely up there.
I'm not sure Madonna would be number 5. At least not when you factor younger people in. I'm not even sure I've heard any of her music. That's one reason why I had chosen Queen over bands like AC/DC or Van Halen.
My reason for picking Snoop Dogg is his international presence. He's apparently extremely popular in Asia and South America.
