Who's the idiot/s?

In 2016, I received a kidney transplant and I now get my immuno-suppressant pills through an independent specialist service provider who deliver the pills straight to my door because I can't get them in any regular pharmacist.

So, long story short, they phoned me up at 9:30am this morning to check how many pills I had left (as they sometimes do) and I didn't know off the top of my head so I started counting. Out of the blue, my mother decided to tell them to hang up while I was in the middle of counting, and to call back 10 minutes later. Notwithstanding the fact that this mildly pissed me off, I continued counting my remaining pills.

At the time of writing, it is now 2:25pm and I haven't heard a thing from them despite me also trying to call back twice and being PUT ON FUCKING HOLD and being told by a robotic voice that my call was "very important to them". WELL IF ITS THAT FUCKING IMPORTANT, SPEAK IN A HUMAN VOICE AND FUCKING ANSWER IT!!!!
Who here is/are the idiot/s?

Me for not having the information ready in the first place 6
My mother for telling the service provider to hang up when they were already on the phone 14
The service provider for not sticking to their word 2
All 3 of the above 17
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

If the robotic telephone voice said that, then my guess is that OP is a Brit. That spiel is identical to the one you get whenever you phone an NHS surgery.

In Britain - I don't know about elsewhere - healthcare is funded by the state, the funding it receives is inadequate to cover the country's needs, the organisation of it is inefficient, the system is stretched beyond its capacities, and people are put on month-long waiting lists - and for people with life-threatening conditions the wait can sometimes be fatal, even though they are made top priority and treated as quickly as possible. OP is probably frustrated with the inefficiency of the system and fearing he/she will have to wait a long time before being seen to again.

Why doesn't this work like any other pharmacutical delivery service? You have a prescription for x pills per month, they fill that prescription each month.

Seriously they call and ask how many pills you have???

Immunity suppression is inherently dangerous if you stop taking them at any point you are putting the new organ at risk and they would have to see you immediately if you stop taking them to see if the body is actively attacking the organ. Keeping track of the meds is the most efficient way of seeing if they take the pills.

I see, thanks. I still find it abnormal because the med supplier is assuming a certain amount of patient responsibility by doing that, which will open them up to lawsuits.

I find it odd a doctor wouldn't be doing the medication follow up.

Some people go budget. Seeing a doctor about it could cost you.

Well it would be up to the company. Not the consumer.

Counting isnt that hard. I take migraine pills every day. 2 a day for the last 16 days of the same 60 pill bottle. 28 pills left. Basic math that anyone can do if they have a stable persciption amount.

Did you count the pills when you got the bottle?

I always count what's actually in the bottle. You'd be surprised how often it's off.

Get off your lazy ass and go to the pharmacy. You must live in the UK. I don't know why I think that. But that is how your whiney story hit me. And I happen to like the Brits as a whole.

No such thing. WTF is a "specialist" pill. Give out the name of the medication that can't be sold in a pharmacy?

He is probably getting drugs that have to be prescribed by a speciel doctors request. As in some people need prescription pain killers for sever pain but are tightly regulated.

        • Tacrolimus. Next question.

PS: there's actually 3 specialist pills I have to take which I can't get at any regular pharmacy. Want me to name the other two?

No one is an idiot. Just know that any kind of system that puts you on hild that long or sends you straight to robot never hang up. Since they are notoriously hard to get a hold of.

Sometimes life has it's little irritations like this. Having to call and talking to a computer and press 1 for this or whatever is annoying. That's just life sometimes.
