Why are people suddenly labeled old at 30 ?

Okay so why are people suddenly old at 30 , at 29 they are still in the adult-youth category yet whhen they turn 30 they are real adults .Why is that ?

Actually people are beggning of becoming old when they hit 28 /29 4
because 30 is the end of youth and begining of adulthood 19
because at 30 one is supposed to be mature 12
Because at 30 you are a real woman / man 4

Actually 30 today is the new 20 ! 13
from 20-29 is youth , from 30+ is adulthood 5
To heck , with 30 ,,i'm 13 going on 30 !(figure of speeach) 1
i'm actually very young but feel like i am an adult ,age is how u feel 4
i'm 30 look 22 and act like i'm 17 10

I don't quite understand what you are asking. I have never considered 30 to be old and don't know who would. I am on the cusp of turning 30 and I can tell you that I am much more mature than when I was in my early 20s though. As far as being an adult I think that the average 27 or 28 year-old would have more in common with a 30 year-old than a 22 year-old.

I think people become "real" adults once they become self-supporting. The age this happens obviously depends on when you leave home and completely support yourself. For some this happens early and others later.

I became self-supporting at 22. Even though I was an adult then I am much more mature at 29. I'm sure that when I'm 42 I'll be able to look back and say that I am more mature than when I was 29. This probably continues until we die. You continue maturing and changing for your entire life.

You're exactly right - we do continue maturing over the years. 30 is certainly not old! Though I would like to say that I wouldn't want to accept advice from anyone on this site who was a lot younger than 30, who still lived at home with mom and dad, and who really hadn't even started living.

I try to advise users so that they don't look back years later and realise they have humiliated themselves or done irreparable damage to their lives. Very easy to do when you're young and foolish, under 30 ;o)

The only people I've heard who say 30 is old are teens. And their opinion doesn't count. *grin*

because this is a website for ADULTS 18+; not a good place for children (people 17 years old or younger).

WHAT? 30 is NOT old. 30 is in fact the age of a grown adult. Maybe you think it's old, but it's not; it's adulthood. 60 is old.

At thirty, most people are beginning to settle down with a family. If you're not, you might be called old. When you have a family and a real job, it can be hard to keep up with facebook trends, clothing trends, technology, etc. so even with the diversity of the post-college, pre-marriage age group, you still may not fit in as a young person. If you are 30 and haven't settled down yet, lie about your age until you look too old to stop doing that.

This is a late response but I just ran across it.

Why on earth should you lie about your age just because you haven't settled down at 30? And why does not being settled make you "old"? The vast majority of my friends who are in their early thirties haven't settled down - in fact, the period of early thirties is frequently included with the twenties as "emerging adulthood". Some people aren't ready, emotionally or financially, for a family at a given age and many people are still doing their studies at 30.

It happens at different times for different people, some at 20, some at 40, some at 50, some later, and some just aren't interested. If you want it, you can't make it happen just because you're a particular age.

The correct answer is that people today mostly don't know the truth or even how to go about figuring it, so I will elucidate:

if you assume a lifespan of 78 for men and 82 for women, this means that first third of life = youth, second third = middle age and last third = old age, so 55+ is old by definition. At 30 you're on the cusp of late youth and early middle-age, hence not old.

I know exactly what you're saying! I see those commercials saying, "Skin starts to get fucked after age 20..." and I'm like WTF?

That is NOT old at all, 60 is gettin' there but I think 70 and beyond is old, PERIOD. It's today's society, you see all these celebs acting like Paris Hilton because of their melodramatical phases.

I don't like that association with old @ 30 thing either - I think it's bollocks. In fact? i think 30 is when people really get their sh*t together and go for it! Whether they enjoy making a family, building a career or enjoying new adventures! 30 year olds have some life experience and some self knowledge plus (taking good care of themselves) can look better than ever!

i'm 25 and I look forward to getting to that point in my life and celebrating it with glee :)

    hehe!!

I just hope the next 30 years go a little slower than the last. This hit's home, cause I am 30. :-/

  • I think 30 is a perfect age for people. Infact I think men in their 30's are pretty damn gorgeous. Not in a rude, sexist way.. Lol.

Who cares. Old is relevant to your health biologically speaking. If you consider yourself old at thirty, then you must plan on having a short life.

This rings true, in fact I recently found out a guy I knew was 27 and made me think "dude he's almost 30".

Dunno why but yeah, you just get the feeling they're old.
