I assume that it would 1. Let others know your interests. For instance, if I'm into BDSM and I find a page that has to do with that, I might like it. Anyone that saw my page would know that I'm interested in the lifestyle. 2. Let's say that you have a favourite author or band, not just for the reasons above, but if you like them, you'll get updates on them. Alternatively, a person could follow them on twitter or some other site, but you get the point.

  • I couldn't give a shit about media and celebrities but I use facebook as a way to stay in touch with people I know in real life.

If the movie releases a new version or there is any sort of news attributed to the movie, liking it will make it show up on your news feed. It's only really common to see regular posts from bands who use Facebook to update fans when new albums drop or concert dates are set and changed. Celebrities post updates and restaurants often post discounts and new products.

I use Facebook often because the local news and smaller news organizations can throw out updates faster on Facebook than they can anywhere else. Sometimes you'll even see the reporters commenting on the story to clarify details for the commenters.

I also use it to keep up with journals such as Psychology today. Many publications, both scientific and not, publish links to new journals on FB.

All vanity aside, Facebook and social media is a very useful tool to gain information about the world around you without having to look too far.
