Why do cats like earwax?

So I'd pick at my ear a bit and then my cat goes bonkers, like earwax is concentrated catnip or something. He'll just keep licking my finger even after its completely gone.

    My cat loves my used Q-tips which is why I use those trashcans that you have to step on to open.
