Why do i always cry in the face of authority?

I seem to always be in trouble. Quite honestly I couldnt care less, as the punishments are stupid and dont really affect me. But every time I get called in or a teacher wants to speak to me, even if it's about something good, I cry. There's absolutely no basis for it. I just start to sob. It's a reaction of sorts. I dont understand it and I NEED to get rid of it. It's completely embarassing and doesnt make any sense. Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm the same way! I think it has something to do with parents yelling/disciplining their children when they're younger.

No, it's not that. It has nothing to do with confidence. Im also on the mock trial team and Im an attorney with a very short temper, and I cry even when I get angry, which is almost always during the trials.

    Ffffuuu.

This happened to me a long time ago when I got called to the principal's office, I almost cried but I held it in. Ever since I haven't gotten in trouble! (Got a good record)

You might want to try having more confidence in front of a teacher. You can even stare at his/her nose instead of their whole face.

Happens to me all the time. The worst thing is, when i cry, I can't talk, so they ask me questions and I just sit there like "uh..Oh, Uh, Waa!"

build confidence. try to be bolder and braver. get help from friends and family. teachers could help you too. or if you are so embarassed. there is always a psychiatrist. its just a habit. anxiety. not a big deal. its just flow of adrenaline. go to a psychiatrist. it'll be better.
by the way i like your kind of people. i feel you guys are really cute. you guys remind me of chia anime girls. cuties. lol.

  • Do you know what you are thinking at the time? You might want to look at a book on cognitive therapy by Burns or someone else. The idea is that how we think about things brings about how we feel. Change your thinking, you change your feelings. Might be worth a peek & helpful as you grow up to become more in charge of yourself.

I dont think its abnormal. I know a few people like this. On a side note, I'm struck by the first two lines of your post. I take it you are under 18. I was like that, always in trouble and didn't really care. Keep in mind that once you turn 18, punishment suddenly stops being stupid and can affect you in ways that do bother you. I'm not being mean here, just passing along experience.

I know what you mean, only i find that i cry when I'm angry. Usually when a teacher is telling me off i get all tear jerked, but i don't know why because I'm more annoyed that I'm getting punished for something i believe to be lousy, than actually upset that I'm getting in trouble. I get even more tearful (liek full blown tears) when i have arguments. The weird thing is i keep my voice normal. My voice can be full of venom, but I'll have tears rolling down my face. I hate it because it makes me feel vunerable, and don't want to cry at all but i cant help it.

I'm the opposite. I don't really tear up as much, but my voice totally cracks and studders and gets shaky and sounds like I'm crying or emotional -.- I hate it so much I feel stupid and you can kind of hide your face and tears but you can't hide your voice without not talking

I'm like this too. I reccomend you look for the book The Highly Sensitive Person, it may help you understand why you feel this way more. I've always felt this way since I can remember, like I'd always get in trouble with teachers cause after awhile when crying wasn't acceptable, I'd be more offish and teachers think that's disrespect or something.

People have a natural instinct to avoid danger, and some people may associate authority figures with a possibly dangerous situation. Like, the anxiety at the thought they might get in trouble. I think you may be a Highly-Sensitive Person, and once you read the book I mentioned above you'll understand more about what you may need to help control stress and anxiety.

It really has helped me, oh and calming tea like Chamomile really helps, although it might make you sleepy. It does that for me, well I guess that happens with a lot of people, which is why they drink it before bedtime.

Oh gosh, no one likes a cry baby. That said, get some counseling.
