Why do i get depressed whenever i listen to music alone?

Okay so, I need opinions.

I'm not really sure why but whenever I'm alone in my room and I start listening to music, I just get really sad. I feel really depressed and start crying most of the time. It's never happened when I'm with someone though.

It's really weird. it's been happening for maybe a couple months now which makes it stranger because it never used to happen. I used to listen to music a whole lot more and if anything it made me happier. I mean I still do love listening to music but it kind of makes me depressed but happy at the same time?

What usually happens is I put on my playlist and after maybe the second song I just break down and cry. After that I'm really depressed for a while and then it just goes, even if I'm still listening to music. Which is most of the time because for some reason all I want to do is keep listening even though its making me depressed.

I was wondering if somebody was feeling the same thing or at least knows what's happening. I have looked around on the internet a couple times but all I can find is people feeling sad when they listen to sad music, with me its any.

I have bad anxiety and I know that can make you cry so is that it?

Thanks for your time and help.

In my opinion, it seems strange to me that music makes you depressed. When I listen to music when I'm alone, it makes me feel less alone because it's something I can relate to. Honestly, music is my best friend. Music motivates me to do activities I probably wouldn't otherwise do. Music makes things better, and I don't know what the hell I'd do without it.

Hmm it seems strange to me as well, but its not as bad anymore so hopefully it'll be fine soon.

I often find when I'm feeling really depressed I'll listen to music since it's a healthier way of expressing my emotions rather than alternatives.

I feel like there's more to this than what you're telling us. Did you use to listen to music with someone specific and now you don't listen to music with them anymore? Does listening to music that you have never heard of before do this as well?

Not that I can think of, I suppose there might have been a time where I listened to music after something sad had happened and now whenever I listen to it I relive it but I don't remember anything.

I am not a doc, but depending how I am feeling typically determines what genre of music I listen to. If I am tired Or meditating the music carries me away and Ive been known to cry sometimes bawl my eyes out. You are not alone. Having said that if after people have given you their opine, and you are still concerned you should talk to an counselor!

Thanks for your opinion, it seems to be better now but if it does get worse I'll keep this in mind.

I'm sure you'll figure out what to do. I like to do an activity where I'm producing rather than consuming, so like writing or drawing a little bit, then it would be interesting to see if afterwards listening still made you cry. I WISH I could get out a good cry TBH lol, best
