I hope this question doesn't get rejected. I've just always wondered, why do they play Skinhead/Nazi characters in movies?
Examples: American History X (Edward Norton), Alpha Dog (Ben Foster)
There probably are others.
Norton was raised an Episcopalian and an Anglican but identifies his childhood more with Judaism. He now practices no religion.

My guess: money, as d.o. said, but possibly bringing attention to the subject and creating relevant discourse...or dollar dollar bills y'all.
I never even realized this. I did know that Jews were often used to play Native Americans and sometimes, even Latinos. There are self-hating/Anti-Semetic Jews out there. So, that's one possibility.
Didn't know Norton was a jew. Theres a lot of jews in the industry. On a side note, ed furlong was hot back in the day.
My guess it would be because they are ACTORS? I imagine it would be quite boring for an talented actor to play roles that were much like his/her real persona. Where's the challenge in that?
As a matter of fact, that's pretty much what separates the teen heart throbs (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Megan Fox, etc, who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag, if their life depended on it) from those few with talent, like Norton.
The graetest Skins movie ever made was 'Romper Stomper' no jewish actors.
If you watch the movie 'The Warirors' you'll see a skins gang with both Black and White members, that's because true skins were not racist they were against the cops.
Why does an actor play an acting part, I would say it's because it's their job and they get paid a lot of money for it.
