I am NOT a furry( Although one would think that based upon my actions) but why do we have to bash a group of people we dont understand? It’s like LGBTQ people. Whether or not they choose it, if it’s not you, dont mess with it.
I often dress as a furry but it's not a fetish for me.
Actually nobody even knows why I started doing it as it's not important why. People make assumptions but I do not care.
One reason is it became a stage presence for my musical performances as a gimmick. So I just went with it and used it as a persona I use.
The reason I created the costume in the first place is something that has nothing to do with why other people do it and I didn't even know what a furry was at the time I created the costume. People have assumed a lot but will never know.
A vague answer is I created it as a distraction.
If people want to dress up like Top Cat, Bugs Bunny or even Sonic the hedgehog let them get on with it. It's no madder than any other cosplay. Except Wonder Woman, dressing up as Wonder Woman complete with her lasso, is perfectly fine & should be actively encouraged.
If they want to fuck each other when they are wearing said costumes that's when it gets too freaky for me.
I don't care really. I simply can't understand why someone would want to have sex in a Bugs Bunny costume. Or a black Waffen SS uniform, or an assless chaps & scarlet red gimp mask combo for that matter either.
How people achieve sexual gratification is fine with me as long as everyone who participates is willing & compos mentis. And I don't have to watch.
Perhaps the furry thing reminds them of plushies/cuddly toys & owning them as a kid. People don't want to associate adults dressed up in furry outfits & sex, with childhood & cuddly toys.
Fuck me, some of the sexual acts that people purport & desire to engage in on this site, (the Tom Six fanboy is back posting again I see) I'd say two adults dressed as Sylvester & Tweety Pie banging away seem quite tame in comparison.

Like you, I find it hard to understand why people get off on the furry thing. Sexual activities involving pain and degradation are of no interest to me, but I understand the psychological and physiological reasons why some people like them. I don't have any fetishes, but I can understand them (for example, I'm not really interested in feet, but I can understand how people might come to associate feet with pleasure as a child, and that can be carried over to adulthood). And I understand the erotic power of taboos, so I can even understand why some people get off on incest, scat, and all sorts of things "normal" people find distasteful or even disgusting.
The furry thing just leaves me bewildered.
As for why people hate them, well maybe that's related to the fact that it's no longer cool to hate gays, lesbians, people who have sex with people who have different skin colour, and so on. Many people have a deep need to hate something, so maybe furries are just seen one of the few remaining socially acceptable targets for derision and condemnation.
Also they're seen as generally pathetic, childish, and weak. If you have to hate on a group, it's always safest to hate on people who are unlikely to kick back. Most basic rule of bullying, really.
Because they stigmatize them and think they want sex with animals.
Not all furries draw erotic art. Not all furries wear suits....
People fear what they do not understand and they naturally hate what they fear
I'm a furry artist and I dislike the LGBT, you gotta remember there are differing opinions inside a group.
Personally, i'm still stuck at the part where how "furries" even became a thing. I honestly couldn't tell if the whole thing was just a joke gone too far, or if these guys actually wished to fuck sexualized humanoid-animals.
The worst part is the fact I get crucified for even questioning it, almost as if I was questioning their sexuality or their religion. Just goes to show we won't last another century. Let alone all these idiots debating over which wolf-pussy gives the best rug burns.

I was walking through the chicago art Institute recently and one of the east asian art security/curators came up to my group of friends and shared that his fursona was silver wolf. I didnt care the least bit but the group of people I was with (22 y/o) were just rude and laughing and overall just hurtful to that person.
That doesn't necessarly indicate hate: it could well have been embarrassment or just ordinary immature silliness.
These people are humans they aren’t hideous costumes. And for those other people you mentioned... I’m against that to!
