Why do people hate rap and country much more than other genres?

I noticed this a lot. People often say they like every genre except rap or country. They say it's garbage about nothing, but isn't most music? Pop doesn't talk about anything deep. Soul, R&B, disco, a lot of rock and metal, etc.

People say rap is violent, but so is a lot of media people consume like movies and video games. Plus, most rap now just seems to be about drugs, sex, and money. Same with country. And breakups and love.

But most songs in the past were about breakups, love, sex, dance craze, etc. It's not new.

I don't like most rap or country myself, but I don't get the hate for them.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    • I can get behind that, but I still don't get the hate.

Is your name a reference to the Cramps song? They're my favorite band and their music was just covers and random shit.

Because they are the objectively worst genres, simple.

Both of which have become oversaturated to the point of most songs sounding the same. Old country and old rap both sound good; and occasionally a musician from the modern era captures a unique style...which promptly gets copied.

The one thing keeping me from getting into heavy metal is that every single lead singer sounds the exact same and it's nothing but "RARAHRRHGGRAAAAAGHGHGRHARAHHGHGHARGAHGRRRRRR". The people playing instruments are impressive as hell, but it's almost ruined by the shit vocals

Bruh, that sounds nothing like heavy-metal. I think you might be thinking of death-metal or something. Here is heavy-metal at it's purest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qbRHY1l0vc

If you don't like gritty vocals, there exists metal with clean vocals. Hell, the amount of different subgenres of metal that exists is endless.

Here is Ghost, a metal-band ( Okay, that claim is debatable ) with unique, clean vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD2m_iqD7dI

    That's the point.

Rap is about the same repetitive shit made by untalented people who can't actually rap, and country is just weird hillbilly crap (that rhymed).

    Both genres are shit.

Songs don't need to be "deep" in order to be a good song. It just needs a decent beat and the artist needs to actually have talent.

What's also shit is grime and drill.

Those two are for some reason popular in where I come from. Not sure of what's the whole hype of the two imo.

Yeah rap and country are horrible, the lyrics and the sound are all the same.

    • I think that's too harsh. I think Mos Def has talent, so does Wutang Clan and Outkast. Sturgill Simpson, Johnny Cash, and Lucinda Williams for country. Most modern music is lacking, regardless of genre.

        Too harsh?

Either you don't know what talent is, or you have not heard 90% of rap. Either way, your opinion is not valid, bud.

Most country music sounds like shit.

Because most people don't want to listen to oppressive music from one extreme subculture or another, especially the cliched garbage.

I dont think I’d be able to pinpoint what genre most music is, I just listen to whatever is good

I also don’t think I could tell you the name of a single album by anybody, I just never really paid that close attention to what’s playing

I saw Sierra Ferrell a couple months ago and then she went viral on TikTok. All these “new-age Americana” artists get famous and I feel like they’re my babies all grown up. Lol
