Why is jesus more special than others who have suffered

So what I have been asking myself, many religious fanatics tend to refer to the suffering of Jesus on the cross and how he took all onto him for humanity and such, like a lot. Now think about how many people have died for things and suffered for people. A LOT more than just that one dude.
What did he die for. Well for his beliefs and such. What did the others die for. Well for their beliefs or doings.
I mean even Joan of Arc and she was a woman, in that time, mind you. And look at how she was betrayed. Died too eh
I just felt the need to understand that, because I have just watched a video where a guy again stated „ what did he die for“ and such. It made me a bit angry.
Anyways share your opinions on that one I guess, I wanna get why he’s so special other than beings gods incarnate as a human in the Bible( which is he btw, incarnate or son)

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

People think he's special because him dying was supposed to give everyone everywhere a chance to not have infinite pain for infinite time. However, some people don't believe in fairy tales.

Sorta. I don't have proof either. But the burden of proof is on the people claiming this wild story, not the people just saying they don't buy it.

Are you Christian? I can't remember. I should know that sorry.

But do you still understand how this whole burden of proof thing works? It's kinda like 'innocent until proven guilty' except it's more like 'not an all powerful all knowing man in the sky until proven that there is one'. You can believe whatever you want within reason but don't tell me I'm wrong for being atheist because there is no evidence I am ignoring. I don't hate people just for being Christians, I more just feel bad for them, especially if they buy the sexual aspect of it. But if you try and force Christianity on me, that's the part when I start hating you.

Have you watched Preacher or read any of the comics of the same name?

God is portrayed there as a vindictive, attention-seeking asshole, and that's exactly what he is in the Bible. The question isn't why you should be held responsible for the sins of your father, but rather what's to stop an all-powerful megalomaniac from deciding that's what the rules are?

The only thing you need to understand is that the whole thing is illogical mumbo-jumbo. If you accept that, then you'll realise that trying to understand the central tenet of Christianity by rational thought and logic is a pointless exercise. If you have any sense, you'll also realise that arguing about this stuff is pointless, since the ultimate, irrefutable argument of every religious believer is "Because God."

The entire edifice of Christianity - and most other religions - is built on an irrational reverence for ancient writings, wishful thinking, and an absurd amount of respect for those who have been given the True Believer stamp of approval by whatever hierarchy happens to be in charge of the organisation.

If you believe there are things in the Bible or any other so-called holy book which are valid and good rules to live by, on you jolly well go. But unless there is concrete, quantified proof that supports specific claims made in the Book, it's all just wibble that a bunch of ill-educated people believed to be true a long time ago.

I actually find it quite weird in Islam to have 72 virgins waiting for you in heaven. Like seriously where do they all come from if there are so many for every man going up there haha

Though I think you can’t convince people to believe in something like that anyways, maybe dragging them into more possibilities
With time and patience maybe we’ll endure each other’s beliefs but at the same time know the possibility of all things
But yeah definetly don’t go by the Bible
A Christian probably thinks the same about science books and they don’t have any morals or goals, which is one of the explanations why people may find religions better, because it gives us a meaning and doesn’t leave us with the feeling of an empty void in our stomachs

Theres nothing different about him at all. The only difference is that he lived in a different time when people were a lot more superstitious etc but even back then not many people thought much of him because they killed him. People need something to cling to so they make up fables and myths. It makes them feel better if they let an external power be in control. Its all just a massive delusional mental illness. Think about it- if people claim to hear voices and have a relationship with an invisible being who lives in the sky we would ordinarily call them schizophrenic but if they get together in groups and say it, ie like religions, then we dont.

    • Somebody who answered to my actual question, yay

Actually religion can be something good, we just messed it up real bad. People have weak minds, so like you said, they got to things to make them feel more secure and stuff.
Maybe it was made up, maybe it wasn’t, we don’t know what’s possible
And hearing voices makes them question their life even more which means sticking to the easier part

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • Boojum

I don't agree that religion can be good, since that word is usually taken to mean a fixed set of rules and a particular explanation for the world that was agreed by a bunch of people a long time ago, and is now enforced by some sort of bureaucratic structure that decides who can and cannot be a member of the club.

I do accept that a basic set of rules of what's right and wrong is necessary for the survival of our species, but it's entirely possible to be a moral, respectful, caring person without believing in mystical holy texts, God, heaven, hell or any other religious claptrap. In fact, history shows that people who implicitly believe that their religion provides the only true explanation of the world and the only valid rules to live by can be led on to very dark, violent and self-destructive paths by their religion's leaders.

        • Its good for some people in not going crazy or depressed, to have something after life and believe you are loved and all is good or to explain certain things. It can also be just your thoughts that wish for something and in that way make it come true for yourself.
But as greedy as humans are we messed up. We are simply not evolved enough and not wise at all

We all have morals anyways, none believer or believer. Well except some few
It does work without religion and it can work with

God gives me albeit vague answers, that give me solace and makes me happy, science is just illogical random guesses by pretentious assholes with attitudes. God bless them but please.

If I am an idiot for having faith, I will do that all day long.

As a hooker, and a fallen child which no one on earth loves, including family, I guess I may be inclined towards a loving all powerful God to bring me solice. But no one has proven otherwise and if they claim they have they are just as much faith based as religious people.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
          • When you don’t believe in that whole evolutionary thing, you miss out a whole lot of science and philosophy, which implies, as that is way more than the Bible, that you have less knowledge. Which of course doesn’t have anything to do with intelligence, but it’s rather that you can’t use it based on those scientific things, because you only believe in one thing. Many people would doom it conservative and that is not doomed intelligent nowadays, thinking differently is.
Well of course belief is mostly coming from how you were raised and many people don’t or can’t go against that so we can’t say you are less intelligent than the average person
When that person starts going against other beliefs a lot and is not able to question anything, that either comes from a place of fear or not being able to due to mental capacities. That can either be a believer or an atheist though
Small explanation of what I think is the reason for people associating it with less intelligence
