My pet peeve is hearing white people trying to sound black when talking to a black male person. It sounds so phony and, to me, disrespectful to the black person they are talking to. Why assume all black males are from a street corner in the South Bronx? I experienced this a couple of days ago walking with a black friend along Wall St where he works as a corporate V.P. This man has a MBA from Harvard. Two white men approached us looking for subway directions to get uptown to Harlem. I am white, so they addressed my friend using this phony, ebonic filled accent. My friend just smiled and shook his head. I'm the one who, tersely, directed them to the nearby #4 train. What pissed me off is that I felt that their ignorance was SO normal. Was it? Or is this just in New York City?

    i had a boss would do this when he were talkin to a black guy

    when hed talk to his bengali indian wife he put the quickiemart accent on which were both obnoxious and hilarious

    Why not take it as a compliment if they are mimicking a Black Person? Are you sure you aren't disgusted with the behaviour of your own race so much so you wished you didn't have to blame Whitey again for another stereotypical view of your race.

    Unlike humans, stupidity doesn't discriminate, it's seen in all people and ages. Just got to learn to deal with it.

    Your friend reacted appropriately, because it's not his job to fix stupid people, but to ignore them or easily and quickly divert them to something else.

    Some white Southern people talk with a bit of an Ebonic sounding flair to their accent/vernacular. Not all black people sound alike, but then again not all Southern people sound alike.

    One of the things that disturbs me most is a really shitty fake English accent. It makes my skin crawl.

      Yes, they do exist. The sad thing regarding the blacks is that getting an MBA and working your ass off and assimilating to a successful, law abiding culture isn't the standard.

      The standard among the blacks is to irresponsibly procreate and not take responsibility for yourself and your own actions.

      That is what constitutes a culture war.
