Why was nokia so dominant in the phone market back in the day?

I am young so I don't really remember why, but from what I remember, nokia was absolutely crushing all competition in the mobile market 15 to 20 years ago. How come they were so popular anyways? I mean, there were other phone manufacturers that did phones that were far more technologically advanced, yet they still couldn't come close to competing with Nokia for some reason.

    They were tough, with long lasting batteries, a good design, lots of features and they were quality products.

    I still have my old Nokia 6260. Even today it still looks cool. With it's big screen and "browse/ game" mode, where it almost looks like an ancient I-phone, except without a touchpad. Funny enough, my old Nokia still works and holds charge... I definitely need a sim adapter for it, but it's still good. Those things were made to last!

    My Samsung S3 crapped out after 5 years and my S7 is getting a bit slow after only 2.5 years...

      My S7 got to where it wouldn't charge and would drain on the charger after only about 2 years, which I hated since I actually really liked that phone. I think the longest one of my Samsung Galaxies has lasted me has sadly only been about 3 years, though. I'm on an S10 now that will be 2 years old this summer, but is still going as strong as when it was new (knock on wood). I'd love to have a phone that lasted as long as I wanted though, as I hate change and getting used to new technology! That's actually a reason why I'd also love to drive my same car for the rest of my life, I'm used to it and everything is juuust right!

        My S3 was still a good phone, even if it was old. I would have probably kept using it another year, or two if it hadn't died.

        As for cars, I don't mind new cars, as long as they make sense... I don't mind hybrids... I used to hate the Toyota Prius for being a slow, eco, hippy shitbox, but it paved the way for more exciting stuff like my C350e, or the BMW 330e. Both of those cars will do 0-100 in about 5 seconds, both pin you to your seat, look cool and save you money when driving around town. And because both of these cars are turbocharged, you can do an ECU remap for even more power!

        But I hate electric cars. Sure, they can be stupidly fast, like the Tesla P-whatever-D. 0-100 in less than 3 seconds. It's awesome, but if you do this a few times you'll overheat the battery. Do some exuberant driving and you'll overheat the battery. Use a supercharger and you'll decrease it's life. Drive it in cold weather - it's not good for the battery. Drive it in hot weather - not good for the battery. Fail to follow all the instructions and you'll need a new battery pack in less than 4 years.

        I'm sorry, but no regular car needs a new fuel tank after 4 years! Even Opels and Alfa Romeos with their unique ability to rust quickly don't go bad that fast.

        Besides, nothing can beat the rumble of an angry, cold V8 as it settles to a lower and stable idle.

    The same reason Texas Instruments is so dominant in the calculator industry now. They made sturdy products that were relatively cheap.

    That was because Nokia had sold phones for cheaper price the reason why it lost its dominance was because of its loss in market share and as such it had lost to the competition and some of it was because of how Apple had announced the first iPhone back in like 2007 this was a huge problem for Nokia, therefore this is the reason why Nokia is not as good as they once were.

    Good question. I assume they made solid products that worked well and were long lasting. Advanced tech is great but unless it's user friendly or very relevant and useful, instead of a gimmick, people will opt for reliable even if less advanced
