Will you swim in dark water?

A body of water where you can't see the bottom. Especially a lake or quarry where you don't know what's beneath you or the depth, with murky water.

Deep yes, dirty no. When I was about 13, we went to my stepdad’s cabin on a river and the water Wes muddy. I jumped in and cut my foot on a sharp rock and spent the whole weekend laid up.

If it was dark because it was dirty, then there's absolutely no way I'd swim in filthy polluted or stagnant water. If it was dark because it was seawater, I'd want to know whether I'd be likely to brush against jellyfish, or other stinging things, pinchy things or bitey things before I swam there. A wetsuit or a dry suit would be ideal in such circumstances.

There's not much risk of meeting anything that might eat you in Western European waters.

If it was dark because it was a very deep swimming pool in which the water had been artificially coloured dark from a pool additive or something, then sure - I don't mind swimming in water too deep to put my feet down, so long as I can get out when I start to feel tired. If it's already much too deep to put my feet down, then not being able to see the bottom makes little difference to me.

Yeah, I've done that. Lakes, river, ocean.

One of the best things is to get off a boat in the middle of a lake, or a few miles in the ocean and go for a swim. No people, no noise, just relaxation at it's finest.

I like swimming, I do a bit of diving. Tho I won't go in water that is clearly contaminated, or dirty.

Just deep water that you cannot see the bottom... I used to swim in that all the time - and would still do if I were in an area safe from the pollens and molds that affect my asthma.

Yeah I grew up swimming in lakes like that. Hell I was swimming about the same time I learned to walk. We are water ppl

Also, the problem with murky water if it's a pond or a lake or some enclosed body of water, is that you can't see what might have been dumped in it, which you don't want to ingest, get on your skin, or swim into and hurt yourself on.

    • Exactly. I used to live on a lake that was previously a quarry, and people told me there was excavation equipment left there when it flooded so it was still submerged and hidden. Anything could be down there.

No as I'm scared of very deep water.
