Women, is this normal?

So when I'm on my period and I take a shower, I use my soiled panties to clean myself and to try to get all the blood stains out too. So I wont have to get blood on my towel. Then I throw them in the washer to actually clean them. My boyfriend thinks it's gross but I think it's ok. I'm clean. Is it normal? Do other females do this?

Although it does work, that's kind of gross, really.

    Huh.
I've never heard of that before, but if it works I guess it's fine. We all sacrifice some hygiene during periods, but it seems a bit icky to wipe yourself down with something already dirty. On another note, I've never had trouble getting blood out of towels or underwear, even after they've been in the hamper for a couple of days.

What does he think you should do with them? I wish I'd thought of that when I used to have periods, I think it's a good idea

When I would have a horrible blood blowout I would wash my underwear out in the sink or shower, so they wouldn’t show up in the family laundry with the flag of Japan on them. I say normal.

  • Hydrogen peroxide will get blood stains out of about anything. Been using it for years. A nurse friend told me about it.

Change your tampon BEFORE going into the shower and you'll never have to get rid of blood stains on your towels.

I honestly don't know why women haven't figured that out yet.

The hot water of the shower will probably set the stains.

I use hydrogen peroxide to help get rid of the blood, but it works better if it's done sooner rather than later.

I wash mine in cold water in the sink immediately. That usually gets it out before it stains.

I've never gotten blood on my towel because I use soap and water in the shower... That's what it's for.

    • I use soap and water too but it’s not like the blood will stop coming down after that, even tho it’s the last thing I do before drying off. Not all of us are blessed with light periods here.

Mine isn't light, it's usually 3 days of insanely heavy and physically debilitating cramps. I only use the super-plus. I've still never gotten blood onto a towel. I did wake up on messy bedsheets before, though.

Usually it's off and on all day and I shower when it's 'off' so it's not coming when I clean off. I also always have a fresh pair of panties with a pad prepared so I can slip into it after getting out of the shower.

  • Personally I use paper towels and throw them away so I’m not getting anything anywhere. I try and avoid ruining as much clothes as I can by stains. So adding more isn’t something I want to do plus I’d feel weird getting clean just to wipe with something dirty.

Do you regularly get blood all over your panties in the first place? I'd definitely rather get blood on my towel than on my undies

    • Well unfortunately I tried all different pad sizes and tampons but it still leaks through.
