If I recall correctly, I have heard that that happens because you (possibly subconsciously) get bored of looking at a single piece of text, so you begin to imagine it moving, in the hopes of providing yourself with a tad bit of entertainment.

Yes, and they sound weird if you repeat them in your head enough as well! 🤣 I always thought this as a kid!

Yes! Also if you repeat words to yourself a gazillion times they become meaningless.
