Work accused me of something and i have no proof i didn’t do it?

So I work at a chain retail store and we use these phone type devices for all of our store work. Today my manger said that they got an alert a few months ago that I used my device for gmail and that it’s considered personal use. I cannot remember using it at all for gmail but since they say they got an alert, the only thing I can think of is that I used gmail to look up my password for the store website. I tried telling my manager this but she didn’t seem to believe me. I’m not in major trouble but I was given a warning that I don’t feel I deserve. I know for sure that if I was on gmail it was for Work reasons but I have no way to prove this to them. Should I bring it up during my yearly review this month?

No don’t bring it up 2
Yes bring it up at review 4
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Until they sit you down, pull up your activity log and see "Gmail" under your number, just tell them, "I do not recall ever using Gmail on my work device months ago or ever since I receive the device. Is there anyway you can show me a log of my activity?" If they can't for any reason, it's bullshit. Don't admit fault, and just tell them, "It may have been a mistake in the system, but I'll be more careful. Thank you for letting me know about it."

You're not in any trouble. They're just being assholes, which can happen at any job no matter how nice you are. Just don't allow them to make you dig your own grave.

  • If you work in the US, my advice is to write it in the review if there is an “employee comment” section and don’t bring it up verbally again. That ship has sailed.
Make it short and sweet, but write it in if you can. Realize it doesn’t matter if you did it or didn’t do it, writing it down is only for your own satisfaction.
“There appears to be a misunderstanding in my use of a corporate device. I didn’t break policy or use the device for personal use”.

This has to be one of the most interesting posts I've seen here.

    • Actually it is. It covers employment law, corporate policies, employee rights, accusations, compensation impacts, and wanting to be vindicated among other things.
It beats the hell out of the daily poop posts or I’m 14 and want to fuck my mom in the ass (the latter posted just today).

        • I don’t think stuff like this is entertaining. I got fired once by something similar, it wasn’t entertaining at all to be fucked by someone’s incorrect conclusion - and I was shown no proof of how they came to that conclusion.

Lesson learned. If it happens again immediately tell them you used Gmail but just look up your work password now that you know they monitor usage activity.

  • It’s just a warning. Not worth bothering about. Most companies delete minor things from your records after about 2 years. Just forget it

It was my gmail (I’m assuming) but I wasn’t using it for fun I was using it to look up a work password which I had to send a code to my email for it or whatever.
