I live in Germany... If anyone tried banning booze here, I'll be among the first of millions to start a Blitzkrieg against the sober extremists.
I like my drinks and nobody can stop me from enjoying them.
Having a Weltenburger Anno 1050 right now.
You can not ban something people are already addicted to. See they got smart with tabacco by weening people off it slowly. Which is working a lot better.
On a societal level alcohol doesn't have many positive benefits. In fact, I can't think of any. But still, it's stupid to ban it after all this time. If we consistently banned things based on the actual harm that they cause then that would be different, but we don't. We pick and choose based on archaic laws and what benefits big businesses and governments at the time. It's not about public safety, it's just about money and control. So with that in mind it would be unfair to ban alcohol. Let people drink their beer.
I honestly think the world would be a much better place if there were no such thing as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes/vapes and coffee... Unpopular opinion, I know. Hate me for it all you want, but it's my opinion.
"work", in what way?? Nowadays people are trying to demonize drinking in favor of weed anyway, so it's barely a problem at least not that Ive noticed. It would probably be like how we have all those dumb anti-tobacco commercials trying to guilt trip people to stop smoking, I can see that happening for alcohol
now that weeds legal and socially acceptable theres no point in smokin it anymore
As someone with emphysema caused by smoking for decades, the more anti tobacco commercials there are the better if it stops other people from dying of it.
I don’t see it ever happening and if so it’s still going to be seen. Even if it’s people making their own stuff. I saw pot everywhere before it was legal, being against a law is not going to stop it. Personally tho I could care less if it ever happen cause drugs aren’t really my thing.
I'd just start drinking mouthwash or aftershave most likely to be honest. Dead serious. That's what happened during prohibition. Everybody just started getting fucked up on mouthwash and shit. Fuck that
People here (Ireland) would just laugh at it and carry on like normal, including the cops.
No, prohibition has proved its failings again and again. If you know anything of history, and wish alcohol had never existed, then even from that perspective, it's a net positive to keep it legal. During prohibition people still bought it, the gangs flourished, and not only was the state losing money through a lack of tax, but had to pay copious amounts to keep up prohibition.
Cheers! "To alcohol, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems." -Homer Simpson
Although personally, drinking alcohol has lots of gray spots in it. This, when consumed frequently may result in a number of health problems. I say here in our place, it is best to ban liquor.
Hahahahahahaha thinking you could ban alchol in Wisconsin hahahahaha. The state with the highest amount of bars per person? Hahahahaha! 1800 people to one bar.
In Russia. Our president pushes a lot of anti-alcohol talk... you can see how far that goes...
But I wish alcohol didn’t have as strong a grip as it does. I try to keep my drinking to winter only.
This interested me because I'd just read the results of a recent study in Australia or harm caused by a long list of drugs, both legal and illegal, to both the users and others and guess which one was WAY top of the list? Alcohol of course, way ahead of cocaine, speed & heroin.
Cannabis was way down the list as were some other illegal drugs such as ecstasy and LSD.
In this wine-producing country in Europe, where I am now?
The country's economy would probably collapse. Protesters would probably assassinate the President then burn the government down.
If it was banned again, people would just go back to drinking it behind closed doors at a speakeasy. So, nah, banning it wouldn't work. I don't drink, btw.
It would never work but life would be better if it was never an option, cigs too.
Contraversial opinion incoming :
We would be a lot better off if alchlohal was never ever a thing to begin with. Its WAY too established now to be worth prohibition however. But booze fucks people up real bad, trust me I go to college lol.
What and loose all that tax money, Alcohol is so highly taxed these days its ridiculous.
I wish they would get rid of cigarettes though!
