Would you ever turn to a sperm donor/ surrogate mother if you knew there would be serious birth defects and or future death?

Like what if your significant other has a long family line of a rare fatal cancer or diabetes coupled with kidney failure in early life.

Would you choose to not have a baby the old fashioned way?

Yes 3
Maybe 3

I'm sterile so I guess I win this argument.

But honestly if you have that bad of genetic disorders please be compassionate to the next generation by adopting. Not only will you be helping a child out, but you can also do your parental needs.

Plus at least you can choose what kid you are getting.

I love the idea of adopting those in need of a home, but as a woman, i feel some sort of attachment to wanting to birth my own baby.

Why? As a woman, I dread the idea of pregnancy. The pain and the potential complications can literally end your life. Why risk a shorter lifespan just for giving birth?

I would rather just adopt (I'm even ok with adopting an older kid, doesn't matter. I'm not attached to the idea of adopting a baby).

most women have told me that there is some kind of emotional bond you make with the baby that is growing inside you that you cant experience any other way.

Sure it may be different if the mother to be didnt want the baby, but of the normal healthy relationships i know of, i have been told of this great joy you can only experience during those 9 months

It sucks for me but ironically my partner was very worried about the prospect of risking having kids because of a medical disorder. So now that I shoot blanks it's a more mutual of a problem than solely one or the other. I'd take that blame, social reprocessuions are lesser that way. In however retarded that logic works.

I don't even understand the 'genetic desire to pass on your genes'. Pregnancy is painful and a chore for women. It's not fun, doesn't look enjoyable. If there is a way to opt out, opt out.

In some theres a strong genetic drive to reproduce. Cant blame them. If our ancestors were asexual we wouldnt be here.

      You do you.

    • Survival of the fittest I guess. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you, but I think your desire to opt out of birthing is a weaker trait

Adoption is a thing. Why waste money making babies with random people you never even talked with... When there's children looking for parents.

    • I would only adopt if i couldnt produce myself.

This question has been asked before, but this time I'm really wondering...

If you have that many genetic defects and cancers, how are you even having a baby? Did they skip a generation? Also, can you even guarantee that those traits will be passed on when one of the parents is healthy? What are the chances?

    • Maybe I asked the question wrong, but I was thinking, what if I told my husband “look doll, I love ya, but your genes suck. Would you consider letting me use a sperm donor?”

Mind you this was a “late night” thought.

Oh, I missed that "significant other" line in the OP, that was my bad.

Yeah, it depends on the illness. The choice would be made for me if they weren't even healthy enough for us to do that sort of thing, but if it came down to something like "my kid will have a significant chance of extremely-financially-expensive illness", I would sooner adopt than use a surrogate mother.

The idea of using a surrogate (or sperm donor) is just icky to me. It's like saying "I want the baby to be MINE, I don't care about my partner who's going to be helping me raise it, he/she's just going to have to be happy for ME- *ahem* I mean us."

        • I totally agree with the last bit. I felt dirty for thinking this thought but also wanted to see how others felt

I would never want to ever give birth. So if I wanted a baby that badly then yes, I'd probably opt for a surrogate mother.

I wouldnt ever have a surrogate but sperm donor yes. Shame its so expensive. Wouldnt have to resort to temporarily marrying a man to have children if it was cheaper to have kids with a woman.

Why do you need to marry a man for a squirt of sperm 😂😂😂😂 Just take it. Drug him, pull his pants down and milk him dry.
