I personally would not like it at all. It's that way on many websites and it's just annoying seeing everyone as "Anonymous". Also, people would abuse this and insult other people even more.
I'm sure this will turn into something like Omegle where everyone is an anonymous. ASL will happen like mad. So annoying.
The site is already set up this way because making a new account is so easy, if someone wants to respond but doesn't want people to know they think that way, they just make a separate account to say it.
Most of the users here don't use their real name or use photos of themselves, so technically it is anonymous. If a person is that worried about the negative opinions of online people they will never meet, they need to either grow some tougher skin or just make an alt account.
Are you trying to tell me that Cuntsiclestick isn't you're real name?
It sounds sorta German -
Greta Von Cuntsiclestick, purveyor of fine viener schnitzel and kraut.
Meh, I was thinking thatg but it's not really the same as being anonymous from others online if that makes sense?
I mean, sure, you're anonymous about your personal information but your online account isn't anonymous to others online. :)
No way. Names a basic pre-condition for social interaction. Anyway, my name reminds me that I need to blow my nose more often.
"Names a basic pre-condition for social interaction" You make a good point. So when we down vote someone's comment lowering their Karma we are making them create an alternate account they rotate to continue commenting thereby making them outcasts... Still there but with no official name fragmenting them so they cannot be identified.
That's my form of anonymity
I wanted to have that option when I first joined but I think it's good to have some motivation to express one's weirdness/true self even as a recognized user. Besides, if you really want to comment anonymously, you can always make an alt. Just call it 'AnonymousCommenter'
Lately every time I comment at IIN, a few days later the mailman delivers snarky cards and snail mail letters to me from IIN members. And I never even gave out my mailing address online!
I wish I could be anonymous here, but I've resigned myself to it as the price I pay for participating at IIN.
I don't think it would mess with anything at all. Every user has the option to showcase themself or not. Celebritism and community would still be alive and well, and maybe some users would be even more honest because after all this IS a community, and no one wants to be outed as a weirdo. God, what a shame.
