Writing a story

I want to write a fictional story and upload it on the net. I need your opinion regarding this. I want to make my story not as cliche as possible so I'm going to write a story about a sacrifice for the loved one.

Most main protagonists will die. The ending is bitter sweet where the heroine accomplishes her goal but will be separated with her loved ones.

The hero has a short life span due to something happening in the story which he will die soon. The heroine has no choice but to fall in love with the supporting character. The story will be dark and depressing.

Do you like or hate this kind of story? Thanks for your opinion.

You're should write about what you like, not what other people do.

Sounds like an interesting story! I'm writing a story as well and finding it extremely difficult to not be cliché. Anyway good luck on your story!

Go for it. There's nothing to stop you. Haters gonna hate, but with all the positive comments you will get who cares.

I am writing a story to and it currently has over 1600 reads. Screw everyone's negativity towards a fictional story because they think you will plagiarize.

If its fictional it doesn't need to be unique it just needs to have quality. Think about it... In anime the majority of the series and movies start off as a boy or girl teenage character in a school.

Make it appealing and write to the last detail. Don't screw up on information and you will be fine. (Check the spelling and grammar too!)

Honestly, this kind of thing has been done before. However, I don't think that it's a bad idea and I don't think you should drop it because you want to avoid clichés. Truth is, it's near to impossible to avoid "clichés" or tropes as a lot of people call them. The best thing you can do is take he idea that you have (whether it's been done before or not) and write the way you would write it. Make it your own. I don't think you have a bad idea. Not enough info here for me to tell you whether I hate it or love it, but it doesn't sound bad. I say, write what you have and see how it comes out.

    • I've planned how the plot would be already. I'm writing something dark for the first time so it's nice to hear others' advices and opinions when writing a dark story like this for the first time. It rises my confident up knowing you said it doesn't sound bad. Thank you. Yup, avoiding cliche stuff ain't easy.

Successful authors write about what they know. Is your life dark and depressing?

    • Luckily, no. I live a happy life to be honest. I watch the movies and read the literatures that have this kind of dark elements in the plot. I find this this type of story quite interesting as psychological matter is involved in this story so it inspires me to try something new. Thanks for commenting.

"Write what you know" does not mean it has to be something you've experienced (that's a very common misconception). It simply means you know what you're talking about. For example, if you write about depression, it doesn't mean you have to have been depressed at some point in you your life. However, it would be a good idea to look up symptoms of depression and study how depression effects people. That's all that "write what you know" means. Just having an understanding on the subject you're writing about and getting your facts write. So don't sweat it. Write where ever your creativity takes you and don't let these people who throw around stuff like "write what you know" (but apparently don't even know what it means) scare you away from writing. Just study on the subject your writing about. Back check your information (having people look at it is good) and you should be fine.

I disagree wholeheartedly. If you are writing from what you've read, watched on TV or the movies, all you can put into your stories is what someone else has written. That's basically plagiarism, not creative writing.
First hand experience lends an air of originality and authenticity to creative writing that no amount of research or passive input can.

I have to disagree with you. If that were the case than historical fiction (in which the author was not born yet), fantasy, supernatural horror, and sci-fi would never work because these genres have topics that the author could not have possibly experienced. An author would not be able to write a protagonist as the opposite sex, and a young person would not be able to write as an old person. Creativity works in many ways and in all kinds of ways. One does not have to copy Castaway in order to write a story about a person cast off at sea. At the same time, they do not have to be lost on an island, either.

Plagiarism is only plagiarism if you copy another's idea. Most stories, even those that are the most original, have taken some inspiration from another work. It doesn't mean it's copied but that inspiration is often what drives another creative mind to develop their own work or even their own telling of the idea.
