Depends on the song. Johnny cash did that one NIN song so much better...

I so agree with this statement.

Another 2 songs I prefer the cover of are Common People (Pulp wrote and sung it) with William Shatner and Joe Jackson Also Poison (originally by Alice Cooper which I like as well) covered by Dead Inside the Chrysalis.

One of the few covers I ever liked better than the original.

And I'm a huge NIN fan. Song is "Hurt" btw.

If they can make it their own and kill it then for sure il listen to that over the original

Both! The question can't be answered because every song is an individual case. I can think of plenty of covers better than the originals (The Johnny Cash ones mentioned above for example) and plenty worse (Toploader & Tiffany at the mild end , Madonna's American Pie at the truly awful end).

It really depends , there are a lot of covers I like but then quite often I prefer the original content

Then there are just train wrecks like this.....

But then some artists can take songs and give them their own twist or approach the song in a different way, johnny cash is great at doing that

That is too subjective on moods and the song being covered.

Look at the Kinks version and the Van Helen Version. Both are good, just depends on my feelings.

same with Remixes or acoustic versions.

Like this Remix: (skip first 30 sec its just the beat)

or this acoustic: This had a comepletely dirrent vibe then the album version.

I prefer the original songs over cover songs. Though sometimes I do like to look up rock covers of pop songs that I dislike or look up songs that I do like but covered in a different language. Those are usually a fun listen.

In general, the original song is preferable because it's original. I've also seen some great covers that were better than the original though.

It really depends on who is doing the cover. Joe Cocker was one of the few artists often able to do a cover much better than the original artist.
But in general, I've always preferred the original to any imitation.

It really depends on the song. Some songs only become popular because they are covered, others just try to associate themselves with something popular to give the band some cred. Sometimes both are good in their own way, sometimes they're both bad.

HOW'S THAT FOR A BINARY CHOICE?
