Young person who hates current music

I'm in my 20s and it's rare there's a song these days that I hear and think is good. I put on the radio, and the lyrics are stupid, every song sounds the same, nobody is that talented or original, or iconic.

I hate to be that person, because I always used to cringe at my Dad saying this about the music I listened to growing up. However, my Dad was older than I am now when I was a child, and I expect this from older people. I'm still pretty young, and I've heard quite a few other young people who feel the same.

I remember growing up listening to the Jacksons, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Will Smith and Mariah Carey. Maybe apart from Carey it's not like any of them were singing about anything super profound, it was hardly high art, but I feel like it was still better than the shit that's out now.

The top trendy music is pure garbage. All made like a sandwich from a factory. Repetitive and annoying, using the same sounds over and over again, insignificant lyrics, no originality, boring. Nothing authentic about it.

No kidding. I'm always listening to 80s and 90s music, and movies. I hate shit of today.

    Perfectly normal xD
I also hate most of the musics nowadays, and there's nothing to worry about. To me, they are indeed bad: the beat is the same, the lyrics are fucking stupid and frequently "sexual", and nowadays most musics only want to make "drops".
I listen to various music genres that most don't hear (chiptune, vaporwave, chill, etc...). Hear what you like, don't mind others ^^

I like classic rock at the moment. Anything 60's and 70's.

Current commercial pop music does seem to have musically talentless people (I was going to say artists, but they're not, lol) that just look pretty, and that's about it. They owe their success to their producers and whomever is marketing them.

    More variety is good.

Music started to blow when disco came in and has gotten worse since then, with the exception of The Stones latest blues album.

I grew up in the 90's and I honestly feel bad for the kids these days and the music they have. My step daughter listens to all my 90's cds and only has a few newer artist she likes. I listen to pop and am blown away that anyone listens to that crap. But to each their own.

Same here, I think we were spoiled rotten in the 90s and early 2000s with the great music.

          Yeah, 90's nostalgia!

  • I agree mainstream music is a joke right now, but if you think all current music is bad you're just not looking in the right places. There's plenty of good artists out there, they just remain obscure because they're not already a celebrity.

My youngest sister only listens to stuff from the 50s-60s, which I think is a bit stange, but each to there own

Everyone hates today's music. It doesn't make you anything special just because you're young.

Well it's selling so someone clearly does... for reasons beyond my comprehension.

Normal... Most music nowadays sucks and even when a few songs that don't suck pop up, radio stations overplay them so much, that you start to hate them... I'll stick to post 50s rock.
Since the 90s, the music industry in general has gone down the toilet.

I think it's social media and everything going digital downloads that has completely killed it.

Now anyone can make some dumb song, and if for some stupid reason teenagers are entertained they'll spread it online and it'll "go viral".

  • That’s why I went to satellite radio so I could pick genres instead of whatever trash the radio station decided to blast out.
If you don’t have satellite try an “oldie” station. That’s usually stuff from the 80s which is kinda interesting, certainly diverse.

Even xm radio is obnoxious. Yes there are gagillions of genras but even those play the same popular songs. It gets quite annoying to hear korn and desturbed every 2 seconds I turn on the hard rock or metal channel.

      • True, so I sometimes hit the oldies station on FM to mix it up.

      Thanks

I've tended to just stick with my (pretty big) playlist for most of the time, and I go to YouTube when I want to find new music.

Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and hear music randomly though

Yeah I can listen to a few genres. I like pop (well, old pop), RnB, some Hip Hop. I even like classical music and jazz if I'm in the right kind of mood for it.

I'm a firm believer that there is still good music out there, you just have to look harder. I can list some recommendations if you like?

I listen to shrill beeping sounds all day. The repetition and sense of urgency is comforting to me.

I agree, I love some of the rap music from the 90s and early 2000s. So much better than the mumble rap!

      • I think that "Shape of You" is overrated, but generally speaking I disagree.

One of the main points that I was impressed by was how he creates his songs live on stage, and nails it.

I just find a lot of his songs sound very similar, both to eachother and a lot of other musicians' songs.

Relatively, yes I guess he is one of the more talented mainstream musicians right now.
