Young society using hand signals when taking photos, iin?

I've noticed the prevalence of young people (pre-teens to adult's in their 20's) utilising hand signals when they get their picture taken.

Why is this? What's the point of doing this? It's looks so silly and thuggish to flash gangsta signs and, far too idealistic to flash peace signs.

IIN? Do you do this? Perhaps, you can give me some much needed insight.

    I'll admit that I'm guilty of doing the peace sign and the rock horns hand gestures in the selfies I took for my Facebook profile. I only did them because I liked how they looked. Though looking back at the photos now, they look dumb as hell. lol
