Is it normal my freind can not afford rent at 20$ an hour

My freind works 40+ hours making 20 hourly. They have a lot of connections in thier trade job, a car and a liscense and was introduced to field by family. Rent out here can be 1500 to 2000 for a one bedroom. I managed score some housing through a connection though job but also work multiple fast food jobs. My freind insists they can't pay for a 1500 dollar room and trying move into where I live. Which if succeeding means I might lose my housing and be in the streets. I have no family but managed to survive through shere determination and charisma alone. I not sure how they can't possibly find a place and I offered split an apartment if they find one and they said no way and multiple people have offered them affordable housing. Why are they refusing if they insist on taking my livelyhood away so badly?

          By taking my job n housing so that I have find somewhere else stay and will lose both my jobs. They have a family they can go home too and people helping them. I have no one but myself.

            But specifically HOW is he planning to take your housing? By convincing your landlord to evict you?

              They are trying to get the room which is tied to work. So if they convince the boss they a better fit im gonna get kicked out and replaced.

    In LA $20/hr is poverty level. No way would I expect someone to be able to afford their own apartment. Roommate/housemate situation would be typical.

          You really did not read. We do not live in LA. They have family in LA which is what you asked. I also have family in LA.

            I did not ask - another did.

            However, I don't care where in the USA: $20/hr is not going to fund a sole occupancy $1500/month apartment.

            Now in my area (small city Wisconsin not near a major city) $20/hr will fund a small apartment for 1 person. But that apartment will likely be in the $750/month range (+/-).

    $1500 a month and they earn $20 an hour? You forgot utilities, bills, gas, food, health insurance, taxes, etc. $20 an hour isn't enough for a $1500 month apartment... I don't blame them for not getting their own place but where's their family? Surely they don't have to move in with you and can find an alternative.

      In LA but they also found cheap rooms in the city they want to live in. I got lucky with my place and told them I would split a room they refuse.
